Mountaineering Development | Five Day Course | North Wales

During the course you can expect to look at planning, equipment and climbing gear including receiving expert advice on how to lead your own climbing routes. By the end of the course you will have had numerous big days in the mountains, gained plenty of technical understanding and looked at the skills you need to lead independently in the mountains.

• Introductions (Meet your instructor and set out aims and objectives for the course).
• Planning (Weather, guidebooks, route choice).
• Clothing (Layering, gloves, insulation).
• Climbing gear (Placing gear, building belays).
• Movement skills on rock
• Technical skills for leading (placing gear, lead belaying).
• Building belays and belaying a second climber.
• Lead climb coaching.
• Climbing big routes in the mountains (Route choice and planning).
• How to climb efficiently (How to reduce faff).
• Different methods for belaying (Guide plate, Italian hitch etc).
• Descending steep ground (Abseiling vs down climbing).

Once your booking has been received, we will send you details about where to meet and what time to be there. We will also send you a comprehensive kit list which gives details of what to wear and any equipment you may need. All technical equipment like ropes, climbing rack, helmets and harnesses are included. If you have your own equipment please bring it along with you on the day.
